CORROSION ENGINEERING:
The deterioration of materials has been a common cause for materials to loose their Properties. This brought about the question of why corrosion occurs; Corrosion in simple terms occurs in metals because most metals are not in their natural state until they return to the form in which they are found. Almost all metals found in nature are in the form of an oxide, sulphide, or some other metal compounds.
Corrosion is the process where metals are broken down due to exposure to the elements, including water, oxygen, and acids. Corrosion control and prevention are important to keep many types of equipment functioning properly
Only a few metals such as gold occur in nature and in their metallic form. Thus all metals that is derived from ores want to return to that form and corrosion is the reaction process that allows this return to nature to occur.
The use of metals to produce pipes, vessels and other structures had been practiced since the early days, due to the need of these structures by some of these industries like transportation of fluid through these pipes may cause deterioration to occur in the pipes and this deterioration cannot be prevented but can be controlled. This phenomenon, corrosion has various causes, types and mitigation techniques.
Corrosion control and prevention are important to keep many types of equipment functioning properly
Passivation is important to corrosion control and prevention. Passivation occurs when there is a spontaneous reaction in a metal where the surface forms an extremely thin layer of corrosion, which in turn, prevents any additional corrosion. Metals that can have this type of reaction under the right conditions include aluminum, copper, and stainless steel.
There can still be problems with metals that have been passivated. Pitting is a process where small holes are created in metal. These holes may be small on the surface, yet reach deep into the metal. Problems can also occur during the welding process when using stainless steal, resulting in weld decay.
Surface Treatments
One method of corrosion control and prevention is to coat the surface of the metal with another material that is corrosion resistant. These materials can include other metals, resins, plastics, or paints. Galvanization is included in this category.
Consequences of Corrosion
On a national level, the costs of corrosion are exorbitant. According to a study conducted in 2002 by CC Technologies Laboratories, Inc, industry in the United States chalks up $276 billion a year in costs related to corrosion. Another study conducted by Battelle Columbus Labs states that $100 billion of this amount could be saved using proper corrosion prevention methods.
On a factory level, corrosion can cause the breakdown of a piece of equipment, leading to manufacturing down time and a loss of productivity. Without proper corrosion control and maintenance, an equipment breakdown can wreak havoc in a busy factory's schedule

ABRASIVE BLASTING
Abrasive blasting is a method of propelling abrasive using a compressed gas (typically air) or pressurized liquid (typically water). Common forms of abrasive blasting include bead blasting, sandblasting, shot blasting and soda blasting.
Sandblasting is a general term used to describe the act of propelling very fine bits of material at high-velocity to clean or etch a surface. Sand used to be the most commonly used material, but since the lung disease silicosis is caused by extended inhalation of the dust created by sand, other materials are now used in its place. Any small, relatively uniform particles will work, such as steel grit, copper slag, walnut shells, powdered abrasives, even bits of coconut shell. Due to the dangers of inhaling dust during the process, sandblasting is carefully controlled, using an alternate air supply, protective wear, and proper ventilation.
A sandblasting setup usually consists of three different parts: the abrasive itself, an air compressor, and a blaster nozzle. For etching and small object cleaning, a workstation to hold the piece of glass is also needed, as is some sort of collector to gather up excess dust. Sandblasting is primarily used for two somewhat different applications. The first of these is to clean a surface of anything that may be clinging to it. The second is to either etch or carve designs or words into glass or a similar material.
The first sandblasting process was patented in the US in 1870. As a cleaning method, it is often used for priming a surface for the application of paint or a sealant. When painting, one doesn't want to trap dust, dirt, or bubbles in a previous layer of paint, or other imperfections under the new layer. By launching small bits of abrasive at the surface at a high speed, all imperfections are knocked loose and can then be easily washed off, creating an incredibly smooth surface upon which to lay the new layer of paint. Sandblasting may also be used for such projects as cleaning the hulls of ships or large structures, Storage tanks, and sheet pile.

We also supply, install and carry out on-line corrosion monitoring using electrical resistance probes and corrosion coupons; intelligent pigging; coating condition survey; supply of corrosion test equipment, anodes, transformer rectifiers, backfill materials, etc.
Abrasives for use in blast cleaning carbon steels and low alloy steels are specified in ISO 8504-2. Suitable abrasives are:
Chilled iron grit and shot.
Steel and malleable iron grit and shot.
Non-metallic abrasives (aluminum oxide, copper slag, etc).
The abrasives must be free from oil, grease, moisture, etc. Re-used abrasives shall be clean and serviceably sharp. They shall not be rusted or noticeably worn or dull when compared with fresh materials and must be free from contaminants. Sand or other materials producing silica dust shall not be used
Blast profile
The blast profile produced depends on the abrasive and application time used. The required surface roughness or blast profile specified depends on the type and application thickness of the coating to be applied. In no case shall the measured profile height exceed 100 microns (peak to trough).
After blast cleaning to the specified quality, surfaces shall be blown clean with dry, oil-free compressed air or shall be cleaned by vacuum to remove all dust and blast-cleaning abrasive from the surface. Any surfaces showing signs of handling contamination after blasting shall be solvent cleaned and re-blasted.
They are huge metal structures 150 feet in diameter and 50-60 feet tall and can easily hold more than two million gallons of gas or other hazardous liquids. Most tanks are made of steel plate that is welded together to form the structure. The material and the welds are inspected for manufacturing defects when constructed but must also be periodically inspected throughout their service life for signs of damage. The carbon steel is prone to attack by corrosion and in some circumstances cracks can form over time. NDT personnel use visual, X-ray, ultrasonic and other inspection methods to search for flaws and service-induced damage.
Inspections and thickness measurements of the tank walls can be made manually with the inspector in a man lift or hanging down from the top. However a much safer way to make an inspection is to use a crawling robot. These robots have magnetic wheels that allow them to cling to the tank walls. Using remote controls, an operator guides them into positions and makes the necessary measurements. They work great on the sidewalls, however, getting to a tank floor is a different story since it is not accessible from the outside. The floor is particularly prone to thinning due to corrosion attack and tank owners must find the weak spots in the floors before they breach the tank's integrity. This often involves the costly process of draining the contents, removing the layer of sludge from the bottom and cleaning the tanks so inspection personnel may enter it.

1.0 COMPANY POLICY STATEMENT
JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED is engaged in rendering of Engineering Services and supply of Equipment Condition-Monitoring Tools, Instrumentation equipment, Public Alarm & Public Address System, Corrosion Monitoring Equipment equipment, chemicals, Oil Tools and General Contractors. Using our optimal resources and current business practices, the company is determined to work safely and efficiently in accordance with the clients’ requirements and standards.
From the foregoing, utmost importance is given to conformance with international and local acceptable quality standards, which is also intended to JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED in the competitive market. The company’s management objective is to provide services and products, which are in conformity with BS EN ISO 9001 standard and to client contractual requirements. To fulfill this objective, the company has decided to adopt the Quality Assurance System and Programme as outlined in this manual.
The Quality Management Department has the full support of the management to implement all measures contained in the quality system or programme.
Quality Management Department is directly responsible to the managing Director and has no functional primary responsibility of conflict of interest with any department.
It is required of all personnel to operate in strict accordance with the system, performing their tasks correctly and contribute to the application and continue improvement of the Quality Management System.

2.0 INTRODUCTION
The scope of this manual is to outline the quality assurance system to be applied to company operations/project activities undertaken, and also to define the general quality assurance policy of the company
It is worthy to note that the Quality System requirements outlined in this Manual comply with BS EN 9001: 1994 standard.
If there should be a differential in a client’s expectation regarding quality aspect of a project, a Project Quality Plan will be drawn to reflect modifications required by client.
It is the intent of the company that the Quality Assurance Programme outlined in this manual shall apply to all activities and contract to be carried out by JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED as well as to any supplier/sub-contractor engaged for the execution of company’s operations.
The implementation and compliance of the company quality system is based on a documented system, which consists of three levels. The first level is made up of the Quality Assurance manual. Administrative documents, which specify the organizational basis of the system and key quality management procedures form, the second level of quality documentation. The third tier consists of specific operating procedures and work instructions. For more details of approved procedures on how the quality of operations could be achieved, always make reference to second and third level documents.
This quality manual and its supporting documentation shall be controlled documents Copies of this manual and the relevant sections of its supporting documentation shall be held from the level of managers to supervisors and shall be maintained by quality assurance department. To enhance the system, the company shall continue to maintain effective communication with clients and other departments in order to determine the level of quality required by all.

3.1 Provide services and products which comply with all relevant statutory requirements, Company Standards, National and International Standards and are capable of achieving the performance and availability targets of the service and product specification for their duration in the most cost-effective and timely manner.
3.2 Ensure that safety of personnel, services and products, and the environment has been carefully considered, and that appropriate measures have been implemented to achieve these objectives.
3.3 Obtain a certificate of fitness and all other necessary certificates for the establishment and operation of the services and products, without causing any delay in the planned progress of the orders services.
3.4 Comply with the letter and spirit of the relevant statutory requirements and guidance notes.

Quality Management: The management of quality system.
Quality Plan: A statement of quality objectives; and a description of the quality system, and listing of quality activities, to be employed to achieve the required quality.
Quality System: The organization, resources and formal procedures, which provide the capability to achieve the required quality.
Reliability: the ability of an item to perform a required function under stated conditions for a stated period of time.
Specification: A document approved by a generally recognized body which results from the process of formulating and applying rules for an orderly approach to specific activity.
Supplier: Any individual or organization that furnished items or services to a procurement document.
Technical Audit: An audit of the condition of a structure, system or installation against the approved engineering documentation.
Defect: Any non-conformance of an item to specified requirement.
Design Control: The verification that design criteria comply with specified requirements; that design data and methods are valid for the range of application; and that the completed design satisfies the design criteria.
Evaluation: Assessment of a supplier’s control of quality after placing an order.

5.1 MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
The General Management of JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED, having been aware of the changes in the demand situation and increasing market expectations in quality, has defined and implemented a quality policy specific to the company operation including those of its sub-contractors. The Quality Policy aims to support the company in its quest for continuous improvement in the context of national and international competition.
As such, this manual is designed to meet the international and local standard requirements such as based on BS EN ISO families.
The organization, objective and quality requirements are described herein.
The management hereby authorizes the Quality Assurance Manager to verify and duly apply the Quality Assurance Programme.
All staff is mandatory required to adhere to and implement the requirements of this manual. This will be monitored constantly by the management with a view to ensuring that all quality requirements are adopted to the grassroots.
5.2 QUALITY SYSTEM
The management of JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED has developed a quality system purpose of realizing the quality objectives and the quality policy as formulated in this manual. The quality system is laid down in the quality manuals, plans, procedures and work instructions, quality programmes and the content specified therein.
The quality system thus implemented is regularly assessed as to efficacy and effectiveness with reference to realizing the quality policy. Internal audits are used to assess the extent of the quality system.
5.3 CONTRACT REVIEW
Prior to commencement of any contract activities, as well as prior to compilation of any bid, provision shall be made for a detailed review of all contract documents.
The review shall verify the following:
Work scope
Contract requirements
Clients philosophies
Regulatory requirements and laws
Relevant in-house, national and international standards and procedures.
If as a result of the review, any of the above items should require clarification or amplification, the respective project of Bid Manager shall inform the client accordingly and maintain all queries pending until satisfactorily resolved. Following the review of contract requirements and prior to the start of the project or Bid activities all assigned lead personnel shall prepare a design criteria summary for each discipline. Each summary shall contain details of the work scope and list the applicable client specifications and philosophies, regulatory requirements and laws, and in-house, National and International Standards. It shall be the responsibility of the respective Bid Manager to ensure that all the reference documents are maintained up to-date and are accessible to all parties concerned. Each discipline shall either maintain a file of all pertinent documents, or have free access to documents relevant to their scope of work in the central contract files.
5.4 DOCUMENT CONTROL
The purpose of the document Control system is to provide control of validity, registration, filing and distribution of all documents and drawings. Such system is designed to ensure that undated and approved documents/drawings are available at the time and place of the activity performance.
The system embraces all documents for the total duration of JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED activities or as may be specified and contracted which will include but not limited to:
Receipt of document
Issue of documents
Registration and filing
Updating of documents status.
At commencement of an activity or receipt of any document, the person responsible for the Document Control System shall establish a general index of the filling system and of the related “log in” and “Log out” document registration forms; such system shall be kept and maintained for the entire duration of the organization.
All outgoing or incoming documents (including correspondence) shall be registered on the appropriate “Document Registration Form”. And shall be transmitted with a formal Transmittal Form”.
5.5 PROCUREMENT
The following applies to the procurement of materials, equipment or services subject to Quality Management System.
The potential suppliers of such services, materials and equipment, shall be evaluated and approved by the QA and Purchasing Department prior to placing them on the acceptable supplier list. A current list of acceptable suppliers shall be maintained and distributed by the Purchasing Departments.
All relevant Purchases Requests shall be reviewed by the quality Assurance personnel in order to ensure that all pertinent standards, specifications and information related to the item{s} to be procured are listed and that the supplier will have in his possession all the data required to supply goods and/or services of an acceptable quality. The assigned staff in conjunction with the Purchasing Department shall decide the supplier’s name.
The QA officer in accordance with standard in-house Procedures as well as the requirements of the contracts shall establish the extent of control over procurement; this may include quality audits in addition to in-process inspections and final tests.
5.6 CLIENT SUPPLIED MATRIALS
All materials and equipment supplied by the client for incorporation in a given project shall be inspected on receipt for identification, quantity, damage and completeness. They shall be stored, transported and handled in accordance with the appropriate client instructions.
Special care shall be taken at the receiving inspection to ensure that the documentation received with the materials is correct and that all deficiencies and defect are reported immediately to the client for verification and action.
If required, periodic inspections shall be carried out to confirm the materials conditions and adequacy of their storage and preservation. The results of such inspection shall be recorded in the relevant report. In case of deficiencies, the reports shall be followed by a proposal of remedial action.
Materials shall be re-inspected for damage during preparation for use. Investigation shall be carried out, where required to determine cause of damage or malfunction. The client shall be advised of all cases where a material is found unsuitable for use.
5.7 PROCESS CONTROL
This outline measures to control management processes, and other company activities as applicable to JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED or its sub-contractors.
All activities shall be performed in a planned manner, according to the company requirements, contractual specifications and the operations to be used in the work execution.
For some of the more complex activities included in the contractual scope of work the concerned department shall prepare (when required) the supporting documentation (procedures, drawing, diagrams, etc.) describing the activities and the work execution, relevant responsibilities, means and equipment to be used, values and/or acceptance criteria to be adhered to.
Such documentation shall be collected into manuals and be distributed/kept, to be reviewed when required by the system.
5.8 CONTROL OF NON-CONFORMANCES
The non-conformance control system is applicable to all activities of the company, including its suppliers and sub-contractors, and may pertain to any hardware items (materials, products, document) or software activities (inspection, testing engineering, purchasing, etc.)
Non-conforming items and activities shall be identified and properly marked to prevent unauthorized use or implementation, or mixing with conforming items.
Applicable forms shall be completed, identifying the non-conforming item or activity, deviation or discrepancy and necessary corrective actions will be taken.
Objective evidence of the corrective action implementation shall be recorded and maintained to substantiate that repaired, reworked or corrected items have been re-inspected and/or tested according to the applicable procedures.
Records shall also be kept of all definitely rejected items or services no longer re-workable, repairable or required.
5.9 CORRECTIVE ACTION REQUEST
Quality system and production processes deficiencies shall be addressed by means of a Corrective Action Request (CAR). The necessity to raise a CAR may be identified by QC/QA personnel either during performance of an audit or as a result of a document review.
The purpose of a CAR is to induce the audited organization to take all necessary remedial action(s) in order to correct the identified deficiency and to prevent such deficiency occurring again. Implementation of such remedial action(s) and their effectiveness shall be verified by a follow-up audit.
5.10 HANDLING AND STORAGE
A system shall be maintained for the preservation, warehousing and handling of all materials and equipment throughout the entire duration of services to clients and to the benefit of the company. All precautions shall be taken to protect materials from abuse, misuses, damage, deterioration and unauthorized use.
All materials subject to deterioration or corrosion due to environment shall be kept cleaned and fully protected at all times in accordance with approved procedures.
The responsible inspector in the particular area shall monitor Handling and storage of materials and equipment during construction and installation.
Unsatisfactory condition of material and equipment shall be brought to the attention of the Site Superintendent for corrective action.
5.11 QUALITY RECORDS
Records shall be generated and maintained to adequately support and substantiate inspections and test performed. These records shall provide evidence of the quality of the item and testify directly and indirectly its compliance with the contractual requirements. Records to be maintained shall pertain to the following.
Inspections performed as per respective Quality Control Plans, including system audits.
Appraisal of procurement sources
Materials certifications
Records of in-process inspections during construction (if any), installation
Control of non-conforming items, including follow-up actions.
Testing, approvals and audits by Third parties, sub-contractors and clients.
Functional test reports and data
Installation reports and commissioning test reports (if applicable).
Inspection records shall identify their subject, applicable requirements, inspections performed, dates of inspections performed, dates of inspections and inspectors’ names, results obtained, and the feedback of corrective action generated by previous inspections.
For projects records shall be kept of the minimum period specified in each contract and shall be made available upon request to the client representatives. Records shall be stored in a suitable environment to minimize deterioration or damage and to prevent loss.
5.12 AUDITS
The QA Department Manager shall establish, document and implement plan for audit, which shall objective, evaluate the adequacy of the functions, systems and procedures.
The audit plan shall define:
Functions, systems and procedures to be audited
Personnel allocated to perform audits
Dates of audits.
Audits shall include an evaluation of:
Activities, processes, work area. Items and service
Quality practice, systems, procedures and instructions.
Certification documents and records.
Audits shall be carried out by appropriately trained personnel who are not directly responsible for the area being audited.
Audits shall be performed in accordance with documented audit procedures and/or checklists, which identify essential items to be investigated. Each deficiency found during the audit shall be addressed by means of “Corrective Action Request”.
The management responsible for the area audited shall review, agree and correct deficiencies revealed in the relevant audit report.
Any action taken to correct deficiencies shall be re-audited to verify compliance with relevant “Corrective Action Request”.
5.13 TRAINING
All functions requiring specific skills and those, which could be adversely affected by the lack of such skills, shall be identified, categorised and documented.
JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED shall assess through review, examination or other means, whether personnel carrying out activities are sufficiently qualified, and when required, shall provide for additional training.
Competence of relevant personnel shall be systematically verified by means of;
Examination
Testing
Certification.
Undertaken either through in-house schemes or through a recognized Third Party organization. All training and qualification activities shall be carried out by JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED and will ensure that these requirements are established in companies where the services are rendered.
QA department will be responsible for Quality Management procedures.
Contractors/Sub-contractors engaged in the contractual obligation with
JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED will be required to submit all their corporate procedure which are proposed for use during their contract with the company and where necessary to develop additional contract specific procedures.
The project QA unit will participate in the review and approval of these procedures.
In general, the company has a vast list of procedures utilized in the execution of the company’s activities.
6.0 AMENDMENTS AND RE-ISSUE
This manual shall be periodically reviewed to re-affirm it adequacy and conformity to the current company practices resulting from technological and international standards advancements.
When changes affect a considerable number of pages and in any case after more than ten amendments to one issue, the manual shall be re-issued with all the previous amendments incorporated.
70 QA PRESPONSBILITIES OUTLINED IN PROJECT QUALITY PLAN
On larger projects, there may be QA personnel in the project team, in which case their job description should be documented in the quality plan. On smaller project, here may be on project consultant who should simply write down exactly how QA and QC will achieve on the project.
For all projects:
The project consultant will develop the listing of quality activities, allocating responsibility to himself for those activities reasonably within his resource and capabilities. Where appropriate, he will liaise with the QA department to agree which activities they can resource, and include these in the Quality plan. At the appropriate time during execution, the project engineer will liaise again to arrange the necessary QA resource.
HEALTH SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT
PREFACE TO SAFETY POLICY
JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED, shall in conformity with the global safety practice, be committed to the safety of its employees, its valued clients and the environment.
We shall therefore aim at achieving an “Accident-free year” in all our operations, on a yearly basis.
Cost consideration will in no way blur our vision, since we firmly believe that efficient operations come through safe operations.
In our relentless pursuit of safe operations, all hands will be on deck working pro-actively together in identifying, reporting, eliminating, controlling as well as documenting all unsafe acts and conditions and all near misses.
In this vein, all supervisory staff shall be held accountable for the safety of staff under them. There shall be rewards for achieving an “Accident-free year” in every section of our operations.
Management shall be fully committed to continuous and progressive training in safety, as it affects our operations.
It shall also be the duty of all employees of this company to positively influence the safety behaviour of their fellow staff. Therefore safety practice must not be negated through acts of commission or omission.
All necessary equipment and materials for good safety practice will be provided at all times, to enhance high safety standard, in all our operations.
While ensuring strict adherence to all recognised codes, standards, statutory regulations, etc. no shortcuts shall be allowed in all our operations. This company shall operate effective safety management system that allows for development of safety contingency plans to address emergency safety requirements of our clients or local safety regulations not covered by the established plan.
We shall therefore operate from the point-of-view that our work place can be accident-free.
All employees are implored to make the above view-point their creed at the work place, since the measure of our effectiveness at work is hinged on our safety performance.
SAFETY – POLICY
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The importance of SAFETY, in ensuring that we obtain optimum returns on our investment cannot be overemphasized. This is under-lined by the fact that the substantial investment made in the installation of plants and machinery and in the procurement of raw materials and staff can be lost through accident. Accident can also lead to loss of business.
The foregoing statement brings into focus the need to ensure that UTMOST CARE is taken in carrying out all jobs at JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED. Consequently, it is the company’s policy to prevent injury to staff and damage to property at work sites, as well as the office premises.
1.1 SAFETY PRINCIPLES
The principles underlying safety at the office and work sites are as follows:
• All injuries and occupational illness can be prevented
• Safety is everyone’s responsibility
• Line management has a responsibility to train all staff to work safely
• All construction and operating procedures can be reasonably safeguarded
• Preventing injuries and incidents contributes to business success
• Working safely is a condition of employment in this company.
2.0 SAFETY ORGANIZATION
2.1 SAFETY OBJECTIVES
Our safety objectives, therefore are to:
• Create safety awareness, in all aspects of our business.
• Make staff understand how their job affects their safety and the safety of others.
• Make staff think and act safely
• Prevent injuries through better recognition and elimination of causes of injury.
• Maintain high safety standards through recognizing and eliminating unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
2.2 RESPONSIBILITY
Safety is everyone’s responsibility. This means that everyone is responsible for his/her safety own & those around them. You must take charge of safety around you. If you see people committing unsafe acts, or if you see unsafe conditions you and not the “other guys” must take action to correct the situation. In other words you are the Safety manager of your area. This applies to everyone in this company. Management, however, recognize its responsibility to provide safety standards, safety equipment, safety training and other safety support, to enhance good safety practice in this company.
2.3 SAFETY OFFICER
It is the responsibility of the safety officer who reports to the Managing Director to assist management in providing safety standards, safety equipment, safety training and other safety support.
His job description shall include:
(i) Advising management on all safety matters including current legislation, codes of practice and safety at work;
(ii) Liaising with the company’s clients on safety requirements and procedures;
(iii) Monitoring staff safety performance;
(iv) Planning and co-ordinating safety training activity, including, orientation training for new employees;
(v) Ensuring availability of adequate personal protective equipment; (PPE)
(vi) Ensuring that legal restrictions such as hours of work are complied with;
(vii) Accident investigations and reporting;
(viii) Monitoring safety performance of contractors to the company;
(ix) Information management of any hazards, unsafe act and/or conditions associated with any activity;
(x) Maintaining complete safety records and statistics.
2.4 SAFETY COMMITTEE
There shall be a safety committee comprising of: The Managing Director, Safety officer, field Engineers, and the legal advise, which will meet at least once a month to consider safety regulations, and current safety related issues.
Its duties shall include:
(i) Passing all information obtained from safety meetings to all staff,
(ii) Ensuring that all staff are adequately trained and fully aware of all potential hazards;
(iii) Ensuring that all employees know what to do in case of fire, know the location of and how to use fire equipment;
(iv) Ensuring that all defects in the work place or equipment are promptly reported and rectified;
(v) Developing safety practices and monitoring their implementation,
(vi) Ensuring that all safety equipment are in good condition and adequate supply;
(vii) Deliberating on all accident report to minimize possible re-occurrence.
(viii) Compilation and publication of yearly safety statistics and making copies available to relevant regulatory authorities.
2.5 SAFETY TRAINING
Safety training shall include:
General safety management
Basic fire fighting
Orientation training
First-aid training
Defensive driving course
Swimming tests and certification
Other relevant courses.
3.0 SAFETY RULES
3.1 The on-site supervisors shall ensure that every staff clearly understands observe and follow the safety rules and regulations while at work.
3.2 In those rare cases where it is not possible to eliminate an inherent hazard at a location or in an operation, the on-site supervisor will ensure that all persons are briefed and familiar with the hazard. Precautions and substantial efforts must be made to safe guard the job site. Where possible “posting” of the hazardous area will be performed. This may include roping off the area, or posting warning signs. In every case the on site client representative must be informed of the actions.
3.3 Clearly defined job procedures and orderliness standards should be available for every job and employees must be trained to apply them.
3.4 Kidding around, careless jokes and other types of unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated on any job site including the office premises.
3.5 No persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be permitted at our worksites.
3.6 Use or possession of alcoholic beverages or narcotic substance (illegal drugs) on the site will not be permitted.
3.7 All prescription drugs that are taken during working hours or while on the job site shall be reported to the site supervisor.
3.8 Relief crews are to be briefed by the crew they are relieving on all changes in operation that may have occurred. All hazards should be discussed with the relief crew.
3.9 Avoid carrying loads that extend above eye level or otherwise obstruct vision
3.10 No repair work shall be carried out over moving machinery. When working close to moving machinery, construct a temporary guard.
3.11 Never hammer or pound on line or fitting under pressure
3.12 Report all openings in the floors, ground or pit in which there is potential hazard to your supervisor.
3.13 Inspect storage shelving frequently to determine its strength.
3.14 If heavy fittings or tools are placed in bins or storage racks, strips or checks should be placed to prevent their movement.
3.15 Proper provisions shall be made to reach materials in elevated storage areas.
3.16 Do not operate machinery or equipment unless you are authorized to do so by your supervisor.
3.17 Never throw objects off an elevated area until the area has been cleared and posted.
3.18 All persons shall wear approved safety equipment: - safety shoes, eye protection and safety hats. (PPE)
3.19 Wear gloves when handling sharp and rough equipment.
3.20 Compressed air shall not be used for blowing off clothing or persons.
3.21 All pressurized tanks and vessels must have pressure release valves that are approved by management.
3.22 Tools, machinery and equipment must be kept in their proper places.
3.23 Tools and equipment must be right for the job, used correctly and in safe condition. A damaged tool is not in safe condition.
3.24 Post warning/danger signals at necessary points.
3.25 Contents of containers should be cleaned up immediately.
4.0 OFFICE/ACCOMMODATION SAFETY
4.1 Where possible, filing cabinets should be arranged side by side and bolted together to prevent a cabinet from toppling forward when one of the higher drawers are opened.
4.2 Where there is a single filing cabinet, greater attention should be taken to prevent toppling when a higher drawer is opened. (if possible, arranged the file drawer so the lower drawers bears the heaviest load).
4.3 Never open a file drawer with another drawer out.
4.4 Always close file drawers and desk drawers when not in use or when you leave the area.
4.5 Use extreme caution when pulling out typewriters, platform of a typewriter desk when there is no typewriter on the platform. (Without counter-balancing weight of the typewriter, the platform can snap into place with sufficient force to cause injury to hands or arms caught between the platform and desktop.
4.6 Keep paper-clips, thumb tacks, pencils and the likes off the floor as they may create a slipping “hazard”.
4.7 Never stand on a swivel chair or other make-shift device to reach higher heights.
4.8 Use staplers, scissors, paper cutter, knives, and letter openers, with care as they can cause serious cuts and puncture wounds.
4.9 Do not stack sharpened pencils or other pointed objects upright in a container or upright in your pocket.
4.10 Keep approved electrical and telephone cords off floors and out of the aisle, cords, which are worn or have exposed wire, should be replaced immediately.
4.11 Do not throw glass, cans with rough edges or similar objects in a wastepaper basket.
4.12 Do not use wastepaper basket as an ash tray
4.13 Remove all spilled liquid from the floor immediately.
4.14 Approach doors that open towards you from the side.
4.15 Open doors into offices carefully. Do not barge in as there may be someone behind the door.
4.16 Doors that open frequently shall be equipped with glass windows or if practicable left open.
4.17 Never stand in front of a door that opens towards you.
4.18 Tack down loose carpeting or flooring immediately.
4.19 Inflammable materials must be kept in approved containers that are properly identified. Do not leave containers uncapped.
4.20 Broken glass desktops should be discarded immediately.
4.21 When floors are waxed, non-skid wax should be used.
4.22 If you lick envelopes, beware of mouth cuts from paper. Use moistener, to avoid germs & bacteria.
4.23 Handle items such as scissors and letter openers with the handles and blade should not be thrown or tossed.
4.24 Use handrails when climbing or descending stairs.
4.25 In case of a fire, take the following steps:
(i) Know the location and methods of operating each piece of fire fighting equipment in your building
(ii) Know the type of extinguisher to use (see section 7)
(iii) Know how to report a fire.
(iv) Know the primary and secondary routes to use
(v) Be familiar with survival techniques in case you are trapped by the fire (stay low to the ground floors). Never open a door near a fire without first trying it for heat.
(vi) Never use an elevator to escape a fire (use the stairway).
4.26 Never overload an electrical outlet
4.27 Arrange office furniture and equipment so as to allow clear, unrestricted walkways.
4.28 Do not attempt to repair electrical or mechanical equipment without de-energizing it.
4.29 Use proper lifting procedures when lifting objects. Get assistance if the load is too heavy.
4.30 Always keep exits clear.
5.0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)
5.1 Safety shoes with rein forced toes and substantial soles are required to be worn at all times when working at the sites.
5.2 Safety hats are required to be worn at any time the employee is exposed to overhead hazards or work that could result in head injury.
5.3 Gloves and loose fitting clothing shall not be worn around rotating machinery or when working around wire, rope and cable.
5.4 Eye protector (safety glasses, goggles etc) must be worn as follows,
(i) Safety goggles or suitable eye protector, welding apron, cutting goggles etc. must be worn on all jobs involving hammering on metal, including nailing, welding, burning, chipping, buffing grinding, drilling, handling compressed air hoses, acids and other corrosive materials.
(ii) Helper and persons in the immediate vicinity of these operations (listed in (i) above) are also required to wear eye protector.
(iii) It is recommended that the employer and job supervisor give proper consideration to the task at hand when deciding on the appropriate eye protector to be worn;
5.5 Hearing (ear) protector is recommended to be worn when working in excessive noise areas e.g Diesed power station.
5.6 Do not wear jewellery such as rings, watchbands and the like around moving machinery, slings, wire ropes or chains as these may create hazards.
5.7 Rubber gloves slicker suits clothing along with chemical goggles must be worn when working with acids, caustics or corrosive materials.
5.8 Life vest or work vest are required to be worn when there is a danger of falling into water.
(i) Life vests are required when being transported by helicopter and or by boat;
(ii) Work vest are required when being transported by personal boat and when working on certain areas of an offshore platform or on a service boat.
5.9 Employee should become familiar with and adhere to special protective equipment requirements of each job site.
6.0 ELECTRICAL SAFETY
6.1 Report any defective electrical wiring to your supervisor immediately.
6.2 Leave electrical repairs and installation to qualified personnel. Do no attempt make-shift repairs.
6.3 De-energize and lock out equipment before attempting repair work (see lockout procedure).
6.4 If unable to physically lock out a system, post a warning. Do not assume everyone knows your work.
6.5 Notify your job site supervisor or electrician if your work must be close to power center or electrical line.
6.6 Never wash down an electric motor while power is being supplied.
6.7 Use only class “B”, “C”, or “ABC” fire extinguishers on electrical fires (see section 7).
6.8 Do not enter posted electrical power center unless you have authority to do so (only electricians should be authorized to do so).
6.9 Never open or disconnect switch while the equipment is running
6.10 Do not disturb ground wires.
6.11 Get a ground guide to trail movements when using a crane or wired truck around power units.
6.12 Do not use a power line pole as a snub for a winch line when material is being moved or when a truck or vehicle is stuck.
6.13 Repair junction boxes that leak.
6.14 All electric motors, equipment, lights and switch boxes must be grounded.
6.15 All portable electrical tools must be grounded
6.16 Turn off power before removing fuses.
6.17 Install proper fuses only. Do not use coins or other solid metal behind fuse plugs.
6.18 Do not use brass key sockets or uninsulated pull chain sockets
6.19 Replace broken and burnt bulbs as soon as possible. Turn off the circuit before removing and replacing bulbs.
6.20 Use only approved electrical service and test tools when working on electrical equipment and circuits.
6.21 Keep all switch boxes, breaker boxes and power centers closed and labeled. (label switches according to what they control).
6.22 Portable, temporary lighting must meet the safety requirements of the client.
6.23 Use only approved explosion proof, vapour proof lamps and lighting in hazardous areas.
6.24 Keep switch panel and power control switch area clear at all times.
6.25 Portable equipment used for work above 6 feet should have tag lines to prevent them from falling.
6.26 Only low voltage lights and properly grounded extension cords shall be used when entering metallic objects such as storage tanks or vessels.
6.27 Do not clean, adjust or repair equipment that is in motion or equipment that is electrically charged.
6.28 Do not repair computers, digitizer etc. without taking proper precautions, to prevent harm from static discharge.
ELECTRICAL LOCK OUT (TAG OUT) PROCEDURE
Electrical equipment shall be de-energized before work is done on such equipment. Switches shall be locked in the off or open disconnect position, and other measures shall be taken which shall prevent the equipment from being energized without the knowledge of the individual working on it. Such locks and preventive devices shall be removed only by the person who installed them or by authorized personnel. never waive tag out procedure.
7.0 FIRE PREVENTION AND FIRE FIGHTING
7.1 Fire hose (where used) must not be used for any purpose other than fire
fighting, without obtaining permission from the respective supervisor.
7.2 Any time a fire extinguisher is used, it must be reported to the Managing Director or the Safety Officer immediately.
7.3 Oily rags and waste shall not be kept in the pockets of coveralls, lockers, on the workbench, or on machinery, as they may catch fire from spontaneous combustion.
7.4 Each employee shall learn the location of fire extinguishers in his work area.
7.5 Always shut off the engine of vehicles, packed trucks, pumps and welding equipment before refueling.
7.6 No smoking will be permitted when handling gasoline or other in flammable materials.
7.7 Transport and store in flammable liquids in approved containers only.
Containers should be clearly marked as to their contents and inflammability.
7.8 Report any conditions that are likely to cause a fire immediately.
7.9 Smoke only in designated areas. Disposable lighters are not permitted in the office premises and job site(s).
7.10 The use of gasoline and other flash fuels for cleaning purposes is strictly prohibited.
7.11 Every fire extinguisher must be serviced at least once a year to determine that the contents are not caked, hoses are not plugged, valves working properly and that cartridges are full. Additionally, visual inspections are required monthly to determine that they are in correct location and have not been used. A tag must be placed in every fire extinguisher showing date of last inspection and the inspector’s initials. The extinguishers should be located at potential fire hazard areas and should not be hidden or blocked by supplies, packaging or equipment, and should be mounted off the floor or work area.
7.12 Good housekeeping shall be observed at all times to reduce injury and minimize fire hazards.
7.13 No smoking signs shall be posted in storage areas.
7.14 Do no store inflammable liquids and materials within 100 feet of shop locations.
7.15 Store inflammable liquids in approved containers. Store gasoline, kerosene, or other inflammable liquids in glass containers.
7.16 Confine smoking to designated smoking areas. Do not smoke around:
i) Inflammable storage areas
ii) Around posted ‘No Smoking’ areas
iii) In the office premises
iv) On clients sites.
7.17 All staff must be trained in the care and use of fire fighting equipments so as to thoroughly familiarize them with the equipment, its operation, the size of the equipment and the number of units and the radius of its effectiveness.
7.18 All fire fighting equipments should be properly marked for ease of identification. (Possibly by colour coding)
CLASSIFICATION OF FIRES
Class A
7.19 Fire of ordinary combustibles such as paper, wood, textiles, rubber etc. Cooling with
Water is the most effective way of extinguishing a class A fire. (Water, foam or water base liquids).
Class B
7.20 Fire of vapours, gasoline, oil, grease, paint, solvent etc. The best extinguishing agent
are dry chemicals, carbon dioxide and/or foam (water can be used only as a spray or fog). In most cases water used in class B fires will spread the fire.
Class C
7.21 Fire in live electrical systems. Water must not be used as an extinguishing agent as
there is the danger of electrocution. Carbon dioxide or dry chemical is the extinguishing agent.
8.0 ROAD SAFETY
8.1 All drivers of the company vehicles must have a current driving licence
8.2 All vehicles must be checked by the driver before being taken on the road
8.3 All safety systems, lights, steering, brakes, washers, wipers, signals, pedals, locks, etc. should be checked and logged in the company’s weekly vehicle report book.
8.4 All road signs, traffic rules and regulations must always be obeyed by all company drivers.
8.5 Drivers, front seat passengers and rear seat passengers (where rear seat belts are available) must wear seat belts. Drivers are held responsible for the wearing of seat belts by passengers and have the authority not to move the vehicle until this is complied with.
9 .0 OFFSHORE SAFETY
9.1 Employees are not permitted to work alone on offshore or over water platforms. Employees should always maintain visual contact with other service personnel, while working offshore.
9.2 All Federal state and client company rules and regulations should be observed at all times.
9.3 Any person working outside protective handrails, on boat landing levels, or a boat, must wear a life jacket or similar floatation device.
9.4 Swimming from an offshore platform, boat or deck is strictly prohibited, unless under an emergency.
9.5 When reporting to an offshore platform or in-land water job site, report to the platform supervisor for instructions and safety briefing.
9.6 Read and become familiar with all safety regulations and emergency procedures in effect on the platform.
9.7 Participate in all emergency fire and abandonment drills that may occur while you are on the job site.
9.8 Report defective equipment and safety devices to your on site supervisor and to the client platform site supervisor.
9.9 When of duty on the job site wear appropriate clothing and footwear as required by the client.
10.0 HELICOPTER SAFETY
10.1 Stay clear of the helicopter and wait for the signal that it is safe to approach the helicopter.
10.2 Remove your hat or cap before approaching the helicopter from the front, put on your life jacket pouch, sit down and fasten your seat belt.
10.3 Make sure that your seat belt is securely fastened, stay clear, avoid panicking or shouting, wear the protector. Do not open the emergency exit. Always keep the exit clear.
10.4 Do not approach the helicopter from the rear. If you are carrying pipes or long objects, hold them horizontally.
10.5 Do not inflate the life jacket inside the helicopter.
10.6 Do not open any door or emergency exit until you are told by the pilot or the quartermaster to do so.
10.7 Do no argue or shout to the quartermaster/co-passengers in case of emergency. Follow the instruction of the pilot and the quartermaster.
11.0 MATERIALS HANDLING SAFETY
FORKLIFT OPERATIONS
11.1 Wheels shall not be turned too fast
11.2 Forklifts shall not move with raised mast/load.
11.3 There shall be no turning on ramps or sloping surfaces.
11.4 Lowest speeds shall be maintained on uneven surfaces.
11.5 Drivers shall not carry overload.
11.6 There shall be no violent or sudden braking
11.7 Excessive speed is prohibited.

11.14 All vehicles being loaded/unloaded must be ensured to be stationary and immovable by using chucks.

11.17 During loading/unloading workers must wear safety hats, safety shoes, hand gloves and any other personal protective equipment, depending on the material being handled.
11.18 Where a barge is being loaded/unloading, all workers on the barge must wear work-vests.
11.19 All personnel not involved in loaded/unloading activities, shall always be required to keep off the work area.
11.20 Where loading will be done mechanically, the device will be ensured to be in good condition.
12.0 CONTRACTORS SAFETY
RESPONSIBILITIES OF CONTRACTORS HIRED BY JOOK GLOBAL SERVICES LIMITED
12.1 The contractor shall exercise due care and take adequate precautions to ensure that in the execution of the work or supply of services, he maintains and observes safe working practice.
12.2 The contractor shall provide for and take precautions to ensure safety, security, health and general welfare of personnel, tools and equipment involved.
12.3 The contractor shall observe all laws, regulations, orders, rules, guide-lines and directives of the company and the country.
12.4 The contractor shall be responsible for providing his staff with personal protective equipment required to enable them carry out the work or services in a safe manner.
12.5 The contractor shall from time to time consult with the safety officer on any problem concerning safety in carrying out the job. The contractor’s obligation to safety requirements is very essential and if the contractor operates in a manner, which the company consider unsafe, the contractor shall be advised to correct the situation.
